Brian Catling, Soundings: A Tractate of Absence, 1991

Published to accompany Brian Catling’s exhibition At the Lighthouse with Matt’s Gallery at Trinity Buoy Wharf 8 November–1 December 1991. Sculptor, poet and performance artist, Catling is obsessed by the atmosphere of place. He articulates words, objects and action to create a ‘symbiotic’ total. These are transient works, which choose their habitat with great care and have included a wide range of sites, many of which are evocatively described here.
